Originariamente pertenecía a la Diócesis de Ávila hasta 1958 que se integro en la Diócesis de Plasencia. Su iglesia se construyo en el siglo XVI y tuvo importantes reformas en el siglo XVIII. Cuenta la tradición que su edificación se hizo por mandato de Fray Hernando de Talavera, confesor de Isabel la Católica, cuando era obispo de Ávila en 1486 y Berrocalejo pertenecía a aquella diócesis.
