Ya aparece como Iglesia en el Estatuto Fundamental del Cabildo de la Catedral de Plasencia del Obispo Adán en 1254.
Su actual iglesia son dos templos en uno, su origen es incierto, pero en cualquier caso la primera iglesia se puede haber realizado en el siglo XIV o principio del XV. Durante el siglo XVI empezaron las obras del nuevo templo que no concluyeron y así permanecen los dos fusionados. La cuenta de fábrica de la obra de la Iglesia data desde 1562 hasta 1566
